Trying to find a natural fabric softener that fit my standards was hard. They either had too many ingredients, had fragrance, or were just too hard on the wallet.
That was until I came across my holy grail…
Would you believe it. Vinegar, plain ol’ white vinegar, is an amazing fabric softener. You’re probably thinking won’t my clothes smell like vinegar. NOPE! I have never had my clothes come out smelling anything like vinegar. As an added bonus the vinegar also helps keep your washing machine clean!
So heres how it works…
Depending on the size of the load put 1/8 to 1/4 cup of distilled white vinagat into the fabic softener dispenser on your washing machine. Then add 3-6 drops of your favorite essential oil if you would like to add any fragrance.
It’s that simple.
I love that it leaves my clothes feeling so soft without that feeling like they have a soft coating like with conventional fabric softener.
My favorite essential oils to add are grapefruit and sweet orange. As a recovering fragrance addict I like having the ability to add fragrance if I would like. I can mix and match and make my own scents. Do not, however, expect them to be as strong or last as long as conventional fabric softener. The only scents that last for days on end are chemical ones. Part of my non-toxic journey is learning to love un-scented.
Hope you enjoy the recipe! Tell me what you think below! Do you have another favorite natural fabric softener?
